Reinforced Segment
Ankay Büküm manufactures stiffener ring reinforced penstock segments for high-pressure zones.
What Is a Reinforced Segment?
A reinforced segment is a strengthened pipe section used in high-pressure zones of penstock lines, with stiffener rings welded to its outer surface. The stiffener rings increase the pipe's resistance to radial pressure and enable thinner wall thickness for an economical solution. At Ankay Büküm in Ankara's Ostim Industrial District, we manufacture reinforced segments from DN300 to DN3000, producing critical segments used in the high-pressure lower sections of HPP penstock projects.
Application Areas
- HPP Penstock Lower Sections: Stiffener-ringed segments near turbines in high-pressure zones, 20-80 bar pressure range
- High-Pressure Water Transmission: Pressurized sections of pipelines with high elevation differences in mountainous terrain
- Pressurized Air Tunnels: High-pressure resistant reinforced pipe segments at steel-lined tunnel outlets
- Industrial Pressure Lines: Strengthening high-pressure sections in process pipelines
- Subsea Pipelines: Anti-collapse reinforced segments for subsea pipelines under external pressure
Technical Capacity and Specifications
Our reinforced segment production covers DN300 to DN3000 diameter range with body wall thickness 6-40 mm and stiffener ring thickness 10-80 mm. Ring spacing is set between 300-800 mm based on structural calculations. Stiffener rings are bent from flat bars or T-profiles and joined to the body with full-penetration welds. Ring welds use MAG method; body longitudinal seams use SAW. Design pressure is calculated from 10 to 100 bar per project specification.
Quality Assurance
Stiffener ring weld quality is critically important in reinforced segments. Ring-to-body joint welds undergo 100% UT inspection; body longitudinal seams receive 100% RT inspection. Dimensional accuracy, ring positioning precision, and body roundness are verified. Production complies with EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 10219; design follows EN 13480 or AWWA M11.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a reinforced segment and what is it used for?
A reinforced segment is a penstock section with stiffener rings welded to its exterior for added strength. It increases radial pressure resistance in high-pressure zones. Used in HPP projects near turbines in lower sections.
What sizes are reinforced segments produced in?
DN300-DN3000 diameter, body 6-40 mm, ring 10-80 mm thickness. Ring spacing 300-800 mm. Design pressure calculated for 10-100 bar.
What is Ankay Büküm's reinforced segment capacity?
Stiffener-ringed segments up to DN3000. Ring welds 100% UT, body welds 100% RT inspected.
Why are stiffener rings needed?
Stiffener rings increase the pipe's resistance to internal pressure and allow thinner wall thickness. This provides material savings and an economical solution.
How are pricing and delivery times determined?
Pricing based on diameter, wall thickness, ring dimensions, quantity, and NDT scope. Manufacturing time 3-8 weeks. Contact us with your project file.
