Conical Segment
Ankay Büküm manufactures conical transition (reducer) segments connecting penstock sections of different diameters.
What Is a Conical Segment?
A conical segment is a transition (reducer) piece that connects penstock pipe sections of different diameters. It is produced in a conical form tapering from a larger to a smaller diameter or expanding from a smaller to a larger one. In HPP projects, it is used at points where the penstock line changes diameter based on topography and hydraulic calculations. At Ankay Büküm in Ankara's Ostim Industrial District, we manufacture conical segments between diameters from DN300 to DN3000 using concentric bending technique and specialized forming methods.
Application Areas
- HPP Penstock Lines: Reducer segments at diameter change points along main lines, turbine inlet narrowing pieces
- Water Transmission Systems: Diameter increase at pump station outlets, diameter reduction at distribution points
- Industrial Plants: Diameter changes in process pipelines, ventilation duct transitions, and chimney connection cones
- Tanks and Vessels: Tank bottom discharge cones, silo outlet narrowing pieces, and hopper transition elements
- Wastewater and Environment: Diameter transitions in wastewater lines and stormwater collection line transition pieces
Technical Capacity and Specifications
Our conical segment production achieves large diameters up to DN3000 and small diameters down to DN300. Wall thickness from 6 mm to 50 mm. Cone angle adjusted from 5 to 30 degrees per project requirements. Manufacturing uses concentric bending and plate joining technique. Both concentric (symmetric) and eccentric (asymmetric) types are produced. Longitudinal and circumferential welding by SAW and MAG methods. Segment ends are delivered with flange or weld preparation.
Quality Assurance
Since conical segments demand high dimensional accuracy, CNC templates are prepared for each piece with detailed post-bending measurement. Weld seams undergo 100% UT or RT inspection. Diameter transition accuracy, cone angle measurement, and surface quality are verified. Production complies with EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 10219 standards.
Ankay Büküm stands out in conical segment manufacturing with technical expertise and specialized production capacity. For conical segment needs at diameter transition points of your HPP penstock lines, we serve all of Turkey from our Ankara Ostim facility. Share your hydraulic calculations and project drawings, and let us develop the optimal conical segment solution together.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a conical segment and what is it used for?
A conical segment is a transition piece connecting different diameters in penstock lines. Produced in a conical form tapering from large to small diameter. Used at diameter change points in HPP projects.
What sizes are conical segments produced in?
DN300 to DN3000 diameter range, 6-50 mm wall thickness. Cone angle 5-30 degrees, set per project requirements.
What is Ankay Büküm's conical segment capacity?
Concentric and eccentric conical segments up to DN3000. SAW and MAG welding with 100% NDT inspection.
What is the difference between concentric and eccentric?
Concentric conical segments have both diameter centers on the same axis (symmetric taper). Eccentric segments have offset centers (one side remains flat). Selected per project requirements.
How are pricing and delivery times determined?
Pricing based on diameter range, wall thickness, cone angle, material, and NDT scope. Manufacturing time 2-6 weeks. Contact us for project specifications.
